“An excellent wife, who can find? For her worth is far above jewels” (Proverbs 31:10).

Being part of God’s church places us in a family that loves, provides for and protects each other. Paul says that we are all “members of one another” in one body (Romans 12:5), and an implementation of strength within this united body are women who love God. Mother’s Day is here, and although my mother is not with me any longer, I still have been blessed with some wonderful women who still influence me in the same way. My wife does an excellent job helping me and encouraging me, making me feel good when I get down, as do the rest of the women of this congregation. These women are God’s way of keeping me strong in the Lord.

The Bible opens God’s mind to us to reveal how He utilizes the power of godly women. In Paul’s letter to Timothy He showed us how He used godly women to influence a young preacher. Timothy was a great man of God because he was blessed with the godly influence of two women who loved God (2 Timothy 1:5). Paul described the faith of his mother and grandmother as “sincere”, which means it was “unfeigned” or “undisguised.” There was no phoniness in Timothy’s mother or grandmother and Paul truly understood the power of the influence of godly women in a young man’s life.

God used the book of Acts to reveal the power of a godly woman in the role of a godly wife: “[A]nd he (Apollos) began to speak out boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained to him the way of God more accurately” (Acts 18:26). This godly wife was not only observant enough to know Apollos’ teaching was incomplete, but she was also courageous enough to take this man aside, along with her husband, and explain the way of God more accurately. This is the example of a heart seeking growth in God’s church. She and her husband did not attack the inexperienced preacher so as to discourage him, but they brought deeper learning to a mind that was able to preach truth in a way that souls were brought to Christ. That is the power of a godly woman that loves the church.

All of us are servants in the Lord’s kingdom and each of us have a role to fill to help the church be successful in our area. The women of this congregation are vital to our success and we should do like the Roman congregation and “receive her in the Lord in a manner worthy of the saints” (Romans 16:2). We are truly blessed to have the influence of godly women in our midst.
